Come To Him As You Are

I have never attended a come-as-you-are party. I understand that some folks quickly change into outlandish clothes to make the party more interesting. They don*t really come as they are. I understand that most of the people at those parties show up in strange clothing and probably go home in the same clothing.

We must come to the Lord Jesus exactly as we are for the best of reasons. We cannot change ourselves into what He wants us to be.

Jeremiah 13:23: Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

Coming to Him as we are is humility.

James 4:6b: . . . God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

He doesn*t do His changing work on individuals who think they can change themselves because they are proud. If we don*t come to Him as we are we will be bringing Him unacceptable materials. Trying to come to Him as someone that we are not is dishonest. It is not coming to Him at all. If we come to Him as we are He will accept us as we are, but HE WILL NOT LEAVE US UNCHANGED. That goes for unbelievers and believers alike. It goes for anything and everything about us that needs changing. Trying to change ourselves before coming to Him is useless. When we come to Him as we are He changes us from what we are into what He wants us to be. What we are before we come to Him are individuals who cannot receive anything from Him. What He changes us into are individuals who can receive anything and everything from Him.

2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Never received Jesus? Come to Him as you are.

John 6:37: All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

Received Jesus but fell back into sin? Come to Him as you are.

1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Unable to do what He wants you to do? Come to Him as you are.

Philippians 4:13: I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Not wise enough to serve Him? Come to Him as you are.

James 1:5: If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Don*t know what to do next? Come to Him as you are.

Psalm 37:23: The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.

Don*t know what to say next? Come to Him as you are.

Isaiah 51:16a: And I have put my words in thy mouth, . . .

Need to be stronger today than you were yesterday? Come to Him as you are.

2 Corinthians 4:16: For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

If you come to Him as you are today, He will make you what you ought to be today. If you come to Him as you are tomorrow, He will make you what you ought to be tomorrow. If you come to Him as you are the next day, He will make you what you ought to be that day. Actually, we probably need to come to Him as we are hundreds of times a day. One thing that He will not change about us is that we will always need to come to Him as we are.

2 Peter 1:3: According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
